On 5 May 2009 when the 2008-2009 ACT Budget was released, the Government announced an average of 11% increase on bus fares from 1 July. The document also revealed that 1 in 5 buses on the network run late.

On 27 May,  ACTION released the new fares from 1 July. The key changes are:

Fare Type Current Fare   From 1 July  Change
 Concession Faresaver 10  $11.00  $12.25  +$1.25 (+11.36%)
 School Student Faresaver 10  $8.20  $9.00  +$0.80 (+9.76%)
 Adult Faresaver 10  $22.00  $24.50  +$2.50 (+11.36%)
 Adult Single Trip  $3.00  $3.80  +$0.80 (+26.67%)
 Concession Single Trip  $1.50  $1.90  +$0.40 (+26.67%)

ACTION’s website has information about all the new fares.

Tertiary students’ fares will increase by 49%.

Why? From 1 July 2009, tertiary students must buy concession fares, not school fares. So instead of buying a School Student Faresaver 10, tertiary students must buy a Concession Faresaver 10.

Faresaver 10: Was $8.20 → Now $12.25.  Increase of $4.05 or 49%.
