Alistair encourages young Canberrans to nominate for the Tom Harvey Award for Citizenship. The award is made to an Australian aged between 15 and 30 who has made an outstanding contribution in assisting the development of young people and their families.
The award will be presented at NSW Parliament House on Commonwealth Day, 9 March. The recipient must have provided opportunities for other young people through literacy, education or employment programs.
The theme for Commonwealth Day 2009 is “The Commonwealth @ 60 – serving a new generation.”
Commonwealth Day is celebrated across the Commonwealth of Nations on the first Monday in March. It is a voluntary association of 53 member nations made up of 1.8 billion people or 30% of the world’s population.
The award is a great way of recognising young Australians that make a remarkable contribution to their own communities, and beyond.
There are many young Canberrans that deserve to be recognised for the work they do across a range of fields.
The award consists of a $1,000 cash prize and is judged by the Australian Youth Trust Board. Nominations are due on Friday 30 January. Nomination forms are available by calling Janet Stewart on 0412 901 180 or by emailing janet.stewart@det.nsw.edu.au
