Alistair Coe, the Shadow Minister for Urban Services, has presented a cheque to the Prostate Cancer Foundation on behalf of the ACT Council of Motor Clubs.
The presentation of the cheque took place at the ACT Branch of Shannons Insurance in Fyshwick this morning.
The funds were raised as part of the Shannons Wheels vehicle display held earlier this year. Since the event began in 1982, almost $400,000 has been raised for local charities. At this year’s event, 1100 vintage, veteran classic and modified vehicles, commercial and motor cycles were on display at the lawns in front of Old Parliament.
The ACT Council of Motor Clubs, Shannons Insurance, local motor clubs and the Belconnen Lions Club all contributed towards the success of the event.
“It is great to see local businesses and clubs come together to support the Prostate Cancer Foundation,” Mr Coe said.
“The money presented today and collected at the event are all contributing towards raising awareness and treating prostate cancer,” he said.
The following representatives of different organisations were at the presentation:
- Damien Hawkes, Shannons Business Development ACT Manager
- Bill Lewis, President, ACT Council of Motor Clubs
- Peter Daley, President, Prostate Cancer ACT Support Group
The Council of ACT Motor Clubs was incorporated in 1985 and represents more than 60 motoring clubs in the ACT and surrounding region. There are more than 5000 members within the member motoring clubs and approximately 2000 vehicles on concessional registration.
