Alistair Coe MLA, the Shadow Minister for Urban Services and Liberal Member for Ginninderra, today said the Government had broken another promise by failing to start construction of the upgrade to the Nicholls shops car park.
On 15 January 2009 the Chief Minister, Jon Stanhope, in an answer to a question on notice said that construction on the new Nicholls Shops car park would commence in February 2009.
As at today, 3 March 2009, no work has been undertaken.
“The shopkeepers and customers of Nicholls Shops are desperate for a solution to their car parking problem,” Mr Coe said.
“The current car park is badly designed, overcrowded, and can be dangerous at peak times.”
“I am concerned that the parking situation discourages people from shopping there which impacts on the viability of the businesses.”
“This is another example of the Stanhope-Gallagher Government’s failure to deliver basic infrastructure and another broken promise.”
“It follows from the Government’s bungling of car parking at Hawker Shops.”
“I call on the Government to upgrade the car park as soon as possible.”
