New Cemetery

Alistair Coe MLA, the Shadow Minister for Urban Services, has welcomed the Government’s announcement of a consultation process for the location of the ACT’s third cemetery.

“With the Woden Cemetery reaching capacity within the next ten years, it is important that a new cemetery is available for southern Canberra residents,” Mr Coe said.

“The new cemetery will be significantly closer to residents in Woden Valley, Weston Creek and Tuggeranong.

“It is also important that a crematorium other than Gungahlin is available for the south of the city – up to 70 per cent of our loved ones are cremated.

“I am looking forward to genuine consultation with the community.

“It is important that the location and design of our new cemetery reflects the desires of the community and is fitting to the memory of our loved ones,” Mr Coe concluded.
