Stanhope’s infrastructure record tested again

Alistair Coe MLA, Shadow Minister for Territory and Municipal Services today said the Stanhope-Gallagher Government’s plans to duplicate Flemington Road in Mitchell should be treated with scepticism with their abysmal planning record.

“The Stanhope-Gallagher Government’s infrastructure record includes a half-built, over-budget Gungahlin Drive Extension and a jail that is still without prisoners five months after the official opening.

“With that sort of record, the government should be first concentrating on patching up the mess they have made with the GDE, before they begin another major infrastructure project.

“The traffic problems in Gungahlin will not be fixed by diverting more traffic onto Northbourne Avenue

“$5 million was allocated to this project in this year’s budget; will that mean the government will spend that money in three months?

“Or is this another Stanhope-Gallagher failure?

“The people in Gungahlin deserve better road links from the Stanhope-Gallagher government.

“This Government’s completion rate on infrastructure promises is extremely poor. We call on the Government to fix the uncompleted projects they have promised the people of Canberra before they begin another project.”
